MEASURED HISTORY
7 seasons. 210 team-seasons. One index.
What this page is not: not a win probability, not all-time NBA records. ProbHoops measures the seven seasons from 2019-20 onward. It does not reconstruct the league before that, and nothing here is presented as an all-time record.

LEAGUE CONTEXT
Why the window matters
A probability model has to understand the season it is simulating. The NBA of 1954 played without a shot clock; the NBA of 1979 played without a 3-point line. ProbHoops reconstructs only seasons it can observe completely, under the rules that actually applied — the 2019-20 restart and the 2020-21 shortened schedule are not forced into an 82-game template.
- 1946 — The Basketball Association of America plays its first game, New York at Toronto.
- 1949 — The league takes the name National Basketball Association.
- 1954–55 — The 24-second shot clock transforms possession volume and scoring.
- 1976 — The ABA–NBA merger brings the Nets, Nuggets, Pacers and Spurs across.
- 1979–80 — The 3-point line permanently changes shot value and spacing.
- 2019–26 — The window ProbHoops measures, at 100% observed coverage.
Milestones before 2019 are league history, included for context. They are not ProbHoops measurements and carry no AF-Score.
